The city of Davenport is moving quickly determine how it will fill the vacant seat on the City Council now that former 3rd Ward Alderman Bill Boom has resigned.
City Administrator Corri Spiegel has scheduled a work session for 4:30 p.m. Tuesday to discuss the City Council's options.
Boom resigned Tuesday afternoon after he pleaded guilty earlier in the day to felony federal charges of making a false declaration to a grand jury.
The felony conviction made Boom ineligible to hold public office.
Iowa Code 372.13 provides two options for filling the vacancy: appointment or special election.
Boom's term expires in January 2018, meaning that if a special election is chosen, the winner would have to run for re-election in November.
Spiegel said a location for the meeting has not yet been determined, but would be posted soon.
