A 15-year-old Park View teen is dead after a head-on crash Wednesday night.
The crash occurred at 5:08 p.m. in the 25000 block of 162nd Avenue, just north of Eldridge, according to the Scott County Sheriff's Office.
Witnesses say a 2001 Toyota Rav 4, driven by a 15-year-old from Park View, was traveling north on 162nd Avenue when it crossed into the southbound lane.
The driver then attempted to steer back into the northbound lane when it collided with a southbound 2004 Ford F250, driven by an 18-year-old from Long Grove.
The Toyota landed in the east side ditch on its roof. The Ford also went into the east side ditch and remained on its wheels. Both drivers were wearing seatbelts and both vehicles air bags deployed.
The unnamed 15-year-old was pronounced dead at the scene. The teen was driving on a valid school license. He was a student at North Scott High School.
Superintendent Joe Stutting said Thursday that it was a “tough day at North Scott.”
“Our district met first thing this morning,” he said. “Our first objective is in a crisis situation like this is to make sure that we’re taking care of our students, our staff, and the families and the community. Right now, that’s our primary concern and the actions that we’re taking right now.”
