Last year’s winners included a reflective light-up model and a re-creation of the hats that the daughters of the Duchess of York, Sarah Ferguson, wore to the most recent royal wedding.

You never know what to expect from the annual Holiday Hat Bash, the fourth version of which will take place from

5:30 to 9 p.m. Thursday at CASI, the Center for Active Seniors Inc., 1035 W. Kimberly Road, Davenport.

“There are all kinds,” said Mary Bakeris, an event volunteer.

Money from the $30 suggested admission donation and other activities goes toward making holiday baskets for senior citizens in the Quad-City area.

A new fundraiser this year is “pick ticket,” where a $20 chance will get one of more than 250 prizes valued from $25 to $350.

“There are some phenomenal packages,” Bakeris said.

Likewise, some extravagant baskets are available in a raffle, she said. More than 25 baskets, worth a total value of $15,000-plus, will be available.

Hors d’ouevres and desserts from the chefs at area assisted-living centers will be served throughout the night. Although it’s in the name of the event, hats are optional.

The hat bash was the idea of Gwen Tombergs, the president of the CASI board of directors, as a holiday event.

“From the first time we met about it, she said, ‘Wow, this would be so unique,’ ” Bakeris said. “Everybody comes, they wear their hats. It’s a great time.”
