The Illinois Department of Transportation reports that work on the Interstate 80 bridge over the Mississippi River near LeClaire, Iowa, will begin today

Eagle Painting and Maintenance is beginning a $2.9 million project to clean and paint sections of the structural steel for the bridge.

The outside lane on the bridge for westbound traffic from Illinois to Iowa will be closed.

The contractor will be working from that closed lane to access the underside of the bridge.

There will be no lane closures for eastbound traffic. The open westbound lane will be restricted to a width of 12 feet and 6 inches, so wide loads will be detoured to I-280.

Drivers should be alert for the lane closure and for slow moving vehicles. The project is scheduled to be completed by mid-October.

Drivers are reminded to slow down and drive carefully through all construction zones.

How many times does this bridge need painting? It seems to go on every year or so. Can't they buy better paint? Thank god for Obamabucks..
