COLONA, Ill. - Illinois 84 just south of Colona was under water Thursday evening due to Green River flooding and traffic is being detoured.
"Colona turns into an island on occasion, and this is one of them," Henry County Sheriff James Padilla said.
He said 22 roads throughout Henry County were closed due to Thursday's flooding.
Illinois 84 provides the main southern entry to Colona, a town of about 1,800. Traffic is being detoured by way of Poppy Garden Road and Green River Road.
Padilla said he expects the river level to go down by Friday morning. He said a levy breach Thursday afternoon on the river between Geneseo and Atkinson is causing some concerns.
