State lawmakers generally cleared out of the Statehouse at the end of Wednesday’s work day to get to their homes before Thursday’s anticipated snowstorm. Both the Iowa Senate and the Iowa House will convene briefly Thursday morning with skeleton crews of legislators in attendance, but no floor action is slated in either legislative chamber. Most committee and subcommittee meetings scheduled for today had been cancelled by Wednesday afternoon.

House Majority Leader Linda Upmeyer, R-Clear Lake, didn’t know how many lawmakers to expect at the Capitol.

“If I lived in the northwest part of the state, you know, I might do that,” she said about some lawmakers who headed home Wednesday.
