MAQUOKETA, Iowa — Jackson County Attorney Sara Davenport is looking for a new assistant.

Matthew Speers resigned this week after two months on the job.

Davenport said Speers was offered the assistant county attorney position in Buena Vista County. Speers is from Storm Lake, so it’s his home county.

Speers started work at the end of October to replace Davenport after she was named county attorney in September. She replaced Chris Raker, who resigned to go into private practice. Raker is no longer practicing law in Maquoketa.

Davenport said she is seeking applicants and hopes to have someone hired before Speers leaves Jan. 25.
