The public is invited to learn more about “Ideas for visiting someone with dementia,” the main topic at the Lewy body support group meeting on Tuesday from 6:30–8 p.m. at Trinity at Terrace Park hospital, 4500 Utica Ridge Road, Bettendorf, in the lower level conference rooms A/B. For more information, contact Marilyn Woelke at 309-781-6462.
At least 20 percent of dementia is Lewy body dementia, coming in second to Alzheimer’s as the most common, but most people have never heard of it. It is usually more difficult for the caregiver to handle than Alzheimer’s, yet there is little help for the caregiver. People with Lewy body dementia or another dementia need to feel engaged in life and have fun, but it can be difficult for others to visit with them because their reasoning, logic, and communication abilities are diminished.
