A motorcyclist attempting to slow down for traffic on the Interstate 74 bridge Tuesday night lost control and crashed into the guard rail, a Moline Police official said.

The operator was taken to Trinity Bettendorf for minor facial injuries and is expected to be released from the hospital Wednesday morning, Moline Police Lt. Dave Tertipes said.

The accident occurred at 9:07 p.m. on the northbound lanes of I-74. The motorcyclist was coming onto the bridge from the Illinois side when he attempted to slow down for traffic, Tertipes said.

As he slowed down, he lost control and was thrown over the motorcycle, landing head first on the pavement, Tertipes said.

No other vehicles were involved in the accident.

The motorcyclist’s name was not released.
