Many Moline sanitation carts are getting new lids this week as part of an advertising pilot program.

National Cart Marketing will be installing 1,900 new lids to city sanitation carts. Much of that work was expected to be done by Tuesday.

During this period, the company asks that residents in the pilot area leave their carts out until they have been fitted with the new lid. Only 96- gallon carts will receive the new lids.

The approximate area of the pilot program is west of Interstate 74 to 1st Street, between 20th and 27th avenues.

National Cart Marketing will transform the "wasted space" of sanitation carts into a place for advertising messages on the lids, according to information on the company's website.
