A Moline woman is charged in federal court with embezzling about $12,000 from a local labor union.

Melissa A. Gustafson, 36, is scheduled to appear Feb. 15 in U.S. District Court, Rock Island.

She’s indicted on charges that from June 2008 to June 2011, she embezzled $12,059.37 in the form of funds, securities, property and other assets from the International Union of Electrical, Radio and Machine Workers of the Communication Workers of America, IUE-CWA, Local 84110.

Gustafson worked as a bookkeeper for the union, which has offices in Davenport and Moline, according to U.S. Department of Labor records.

She faces a fine of up to $10,000 and a sentence of up to five years in prison.

The indictment follows an investigation by the Office of Labor-Management Standards, St. Louis District Office.
