The citywide speed limit of 25 mph in Morrison, Ill., will become effective Dec. 1. The Morrison Police Department, Public Works and administration have been working to prepare, educate, promote and enforce the new speed limit.

On Aug. 13, the Morrison City Council approved a new ordinance establishing the citywide speed limit, unless otherwise posted. All city streets will be 25 mph with the following exceptions:

- Illinois 78 (portions of Lincolnway, Cherry Street, East Wall Street, South Clinton Street and Portland Avenue) will remain

30 mph as posted.

- U.S. 30 (Lincolnway) will remain 30 mph as posted.

- Main Street (Madison Street to and from Orange Street) will be 20 mph once posted in the spring.

For at least the first 60 days, officers will issue warnings to drivers exceeding the speed limit, unless circumstances dictate otherwise at the discretion of the officer.
