A Chadwick, Ill., man is in the hospital today after the motorcycle he was driving struck a deer in Carroll County.

The incident occurred Tuesday at 10:20 p.m.

James Wetzell, 40, was traveling eastbound on Illinois 40 just east of Illinois 78 in rural Mt. Carroll when the motorcycle he was driving hit a deer, according to a news release from the Carroll County Sheriff's Office.

Wetzell was transported by Mt. Carroll ambulance to Shannon and later taken by Lifeline Helicopter to St. Anthony Hospital in Rockford with unknown injuries.

Assisting at the scene were Chadwick and Mt. Carroll police departments, the Shannon fire department and Mt. Carroll fire and ambulance.

The crash remains under investigation.
