The annual ACT-SO performing arts competition, sponsored by NAACP Davenport Branch 4019, will be 5 p.m. today at the Davenport Public Library, 321 N. Main St., Davenport.

The goal of the program, begun in 1978, is to encourage high academic and cultural achievement among African-American high school students. The year-long enrichment program identifies students’ unique talents, provides them with mentoring and coaching opportunities and allows them to test their skills against peers in local and national competitions.

The program is free and open to the public.
