A power plant in Muscatine County was evacuated Friday morning after an explosion in a boiler.

The explosion occurred at the Central Iowa Power Cooperative, 3800 Iowa 22, around 11:30 a.m.

The plant is located on the Mississippi River near Montpelier.

The Muscatine County Sheriff's Department confirmed there was an explosion at the plant. Fire was confined to the boiler room.

There were no injuries.

Workers were allowed to return to their jobs.

Central Iowa Power Cooperative is based in Cedar Rapids. The company’s website says they provide electricity to mostly-rural farms, homes, schools and commercial operations in 12 Iowa counties from Clinton to just south of Burlington.
