Francisco "Keko" Martinez, a U.S. Marine Corps vet and former cop, filed a police report last week when vandals stole political signs and an American flag from his front yard in Moline.

"I went to war for people's right to voice their opinion," Martinez, 58, said through tears. "If they want to pray to Yahweh or Allah, they have a right to do that. All I did was put stinking signs out."

Martinez purchased the flag at an auction in Milan, and attached it to a homemade pole so he could fly it from his porch.

On Monday, he secured a new sign — in support of Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump — to his porch railing with zip ties.

"I really shouldn't have to do this," he said.
