WOODHULL, Ill. -- Anthony L. Sotelo, 75, of Woodhull, Illinois, died Sunday, December 23, 2012, at his home. Graveside services are 11 a.m. Monday, December 31, 2012, at the National Cemetery, Rock Island Arsenal. Visitation is from 3 to 5 p.m. Sunday at Peterson-Wallin-Knox Funeral Home in Woodhull. He was born October 6, 1937, in Elmore, Minnesota, to Stanley and Maria Teneria Sotelo. He graduated from high school in Albert Lea, Minn., and married Dorothy Martel on May 15, 1965, in Moline.
Anthony was a Golden Gloves Boxing champ and enjoyed teaching boxing to area youth in his own gym in Woodhull for many years. He was an Air Force veteran.
Anthony was employed as a brick mason in the construction industry, retiring in 2002. He was a member of the Rockford Union Local 6 and loved to read and do crossword puzzles.
He is survived by his wife, Dorothy; two daughters, Lisa Sotelo of Idaho and Julie Carter of Indiana; three sons, Delano Sotelo of Billings, Montana, Anthony Sotelo of Moline, and Stanley of Great Lakes, Ill.; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. His parents, one son, Wade, one nephew, Nicho, six sisters and three brothers preceded him in death.
