Carole Ann Molyneaux Dillon

Nov. 2, 2017

ESCONDIDO, Calif. — Carole Dillon died peacefully at Oak Hill Residential home in Escondido, California, on November 2, 2017, after a long illness with dementia at the age of 80.

She is survived by her husband, Joseph Dillon; son, David Dillon; daughter-in-law, Lindsay Dillon; and grandchildren, Brooklyn Dillon and Molly Dillon. She is also survived by her brother, Daniel A. Molyneaux, and sister, Jane Cannon, (her husband Peter Cannon); nieces, Lisa Hardy, Cathi Brain (her husband David Brain), Marie Frandsen, Meg Courter (her husband Jeff Courter), Anne Molyneaux (her partner Pam Coon), nephew Daniel Molyneaux (his wife Jenny Molyneaux), nephews, Mark Cannon (his wife Roberta); and Tony Cannon (and his wife Joanne).

Carole was born March 23, 1937, in Davenport, the second child of Daniel M. Molyneaux and Marie C. Wachter Molyneaux. She attended St. Paul the Apostle Elementary School and Immaculate Conception High School.

Upon graduation in 1955, Carole joined the sisters of Charity of the Blessed Virgin Mary. She graduated from Mundelein College in Chicago with a major in mathematics. She taught high school math for several years at Immaculata High School in Chicago.

From the inspiration of the second Vatican Council, Carole completed a master’s program in theology at Marquette University in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. She was then ready to start working with adults and update them in the inspired teachings from the aforementioned Vatican Council. She became the director of a religious education program in Tulsa, Oklahoma. After a short time in Tulsa, she decided to leave her religious community.

It was during this time that she developed a friendship with Joseph Dillon and they were married October 17, 1971, in San Francisco.

They eventually settled in Vista, California, located about 40 miles north of San Diego. During this time Carole obtained a doctoral degree in psychology from the Professional School of Psychology in San Diego.

The highlight of their early marriage was the birth of her son, David, on May 3, 1974. Once David was off to school, she joined her husband, Joseph, in a marriage and family therapy practice. Once again, as was with her students in math, Carole was a favorite with her clients.

Words cannot describe the loving, supportive family that Dan and Marie provided for their children. During the years 1993 to 2001, Carole and Joseph moved to Davenport to be with Carole's mother, who was experiencing some health issues.

That same love and support Carole had received from Dan and Marie, she pressed onto her husband, Joseph, and son, David.

Carole was a loving, kind, creative person who exerted a positive influence in innumerable lives. She was truly a beloved, kind and fun person.

A funeral Mass will be held November 28 at 11 a.m. at St. Thomas More Catholic Church, Oceanside, California.
