BETTENDORF — Funeral services and a Mass of Christian Burial for Edward R. Burke, 93, of Bettendorf, will be 10 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 12, 2013, at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church, 417 Main St., Davenport. Burial will be in Mount Calvary Cemetery, Davenport. The family will greet friends 4-7 p.m. Wednesday at Halligan McCabe DeVries Funeral Home, 614 Main St., downtown Davenport, where a prayer service will be offered at 4 p.m. to begin the visitation. There will be additional visitation 9-10 a.m. Thursday at the church. Ed passed away Sunday at Select Specialty Hospital following a brief illness.

Edward Raymond Burke was born Jan. 20, 1920, in Riceville, Iowa, the son of Raymond and Mayme (Tiernan) Burke. He proudly served our country in the U.S. Army during World War II. He graduated in 1948 with a B.S. degree from St. Ambrose College. Edward was united in marriage to Dorothy Brophy on May 28, 1949, in Riverside, Iowa. Ed enjoyed a 32- year career in the insurance industry, retiring from Molyneaux Insurance Company.

Ed was an active member of St. Anthony’s parish and supported many community organizations in the Quad-Cities with a special dedication to both the Handicapped Development Center and Assumption High School. Memorials may be made to the Handicapped Development Center or St. Anthony’s Care & Share.

He is survived by his loving wife of 64 years, Dorothy, and their five sons, Tim (Kathe) Burke, Denver; Mark (Dru) Burke, North Myrtle Beach, S.C.; Gregory (Barb) Burke, Clemmons, N.C.; Matt (Chiara) Burke, Mount Vernon, Iowa, and Tom (Wendy) Burke, Omaha, Neb.; grandchildren, Caley, Meghan and McKenzie Burke, Christy (John ) Wirtz, Stephen (Lizzie) Burke, Daniel (Kimberly) Burke, Maggie (Brock) Slaymaker, Mollie and Scott Burke, Michael and Nicholas Burke; great-grandchildren, Reagan Jane Slaymaker, Rowan Edward Slaymaker, TJ, Ben and Kate Wirtz, and Maggie Burke; his sisters, Patricia Neils, Champaign, Ill., Eileen Chapin, Greeley, Colo., and Frances Hendricks, Sioux Falls, S.D.
