RENO, Nev. — Funeral services and a Mass of Christian Burial for Geraldine D. Toher, 99, a resident of Reno, formerly of Davenport, will be 10 a.m. Wednesday, March 22, 2017, at St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church, 916 E. Rusholme St., Davenport. Burial will be in Mount Calvary Cemetery, Davenport. Visitation is 4-7 p.m. Tuesday at Halligan-McCabe-DeVries Funeral Home, 614 Main St., Davenport, with a family-led Rosary at 6:30 p.m. There will be an additional visitation at the church Wednesday from 9:30 a.m. until the Mass time.
Mrs. Toher died Monday, March 13, at Stone Valley Care Center in Reno.
Geraldine Dorinda Beh was born June 14, 1917, in Davenport, the daughter of Benjamin A. and Sabena W. (Denkmann) Beh. Geraldine was united in marriage to John Turner Toher in August 1950 in Davenport. He died in 1983.
She graduated with honors from St. Ambrose University and received her master’s degree from the University of Iowa in guidance and counseling. She was as a guidance counselor for more than 27 years at Davenport Central High School and had a positive influence on more than 3,000 counselees. Mrs. Toher retired in 1983 after having spent 35 years of service with the Davenport Community School District.
Geraldine also served in a variety of organizations, namely Delta Kappa Gamma in numerous capacities, and as president of Delta Kappa Gamma and Pi Lamba Theta simultaneously.
Survivors include a daughter, Geraldine “Jerry” (Bill) Banks; a son, John (Doris) Toher of Arlington Heights, Illinois; two grandchildren, Kristen and Ryan Toher.
She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; a brother, Alfred H. Beh; and a sister, Marie C. Reagan. May they rest in peace.
