MONETT, Mo. — Harlan Edward Petersen, 86, passed away Saturday November 5, 2017, at Cox Monett Hospital. A Celebration of Life will be held Sunday November 19, 2017, at the Wheatland (Iowa) Community Center from 3-5 p.m., followed by a dinner. A private family service will be held at Pine Hill Cemetery in Davenport. Chapman Funeral Home is assisting the family.
Harlan was born May 5, 1931, in Inland Township, Bennett, Iowa, to Harry and Martha (VandeBrande) Petersen. He attended Lizard Creek Country School and married Shirley Spickermann on February 26, 1955, in Davenport. She preceded him in death in 1995. Harlan was a Korean War veteran and went on the Honor Flight of the Ozarks to Washington, District of Columbia, in 2015. He farmed by New Liberty, Iowa, and did custom work for Farm Service. He retired to Bella Vista, Arkansas, in 1991. Harlan married Lily Ann Stonehouse/Tade on October 28, 1995, in Bella Vista and they later moved to Monett
Survivors include his wife, Ann; daughters, Deborah (Gary) Upp and Lori Boedeker; son, Duane (Jimmi) Petersen; step-children Kathy (Scott) Swanson, Karren Stonehouse, Kristine Haley, Kimberly (Douge) Sprague, Kelly (David) Rhea, Kurtis James (Cindy) Stonehouse; and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Harlan was preceded in death by his parents; first wife, Shirley; and great-grandson, Trevor Trumbo.
Harlan enjoyed farming, traveling, hunting, fishing, woodworking, playing cards with friends and family, and going to the Monett Senior Center.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Monett Senior Center or Honor Flight.
