Mr. Owens passed away on Friday, July 19, 2013, at his residence, surrounded by his family.

Ivan James Owens was born on Jan. 6, 1938, in rural Louisa County, Iowa, the son of Howell and Lenore (Coon) Owens. He was in the last graduating class of Wyman High School, Wyman, Iowa. Ivan was united in marriage to Marilyn Meeker on Sept. 6, 1958, in Winfield, Iowa. For 46 years he was employed at WOC/KWQC and retired in 2003. Ivan had a love of old cars and drag raced for many years. He was a member of the Mississippi Valley Region Antique Automobile Club of America, a Cub Scout leader and a Little League coach.

Ivan was a friend to many and an inspiration to all. His proudest achievement was his family. He and Marilyn raised four children. All of his children followed his example to success in their own lives. Ivan’s childhood love of farming continued on after his father passed away.

He is survived by his wife of almost 55 years, Marilyn Owens of Blue Grass; his four children, Craig (Tamme) Owens of rural Muscatine, Brad (Darcy) Owens of rural Davenport, Ann (Marvin) Schmidt of rural Muscatine, and Patricia White of Blue Grass; 11 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother.

Memorials may be directed to Blue Grass Volunteer Fire Department or to Heartland Hospice, 4330 E. 53rd St., Davenport, 52807.
