SPRINGFIELD, Mo. — Ivor Humes McGuire, 76, of Springfield, Mo., formerly of Rock Island, died Monday, June 24, 2013, at Cox Health System South, Springfield.
Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Friday at Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home, Rock Island. Visitation is 4-7 p.m. Thursday. Burial is at Rock Island Memorial Park. Memorials may be made to the Multiple Sclerosis Society.
Ivor was born Nov. 15, 1936, in Rock Island, a son of Harold and Gladys Humes McGuire. He married Carmen Mendoza.
He graduated from Rock Island High School, where he was an All-State and All-American football player and also a graduate of Northwestern University, Evanston. Ivor worked in radio and television advertising sales and was a partner in the former Mosenfelder’s Clothing Store in Rock Island.
He enjoyed fishing, hunting and football, and was a fan of the Chicago Cubs and Chicago Bears. Ivor was an amazing father, grandfather, husband and friend. His love for life and passion for family was unmeasurable. He often spent time telling stories about his childhood and sharing his life-learned experiences. He greeted people with the expression, “Hey, you!”
Survivors include his wife, Carmen; sons, Jon McGuire, Ian (Melisa) McGuire and Charles (Imelda) Griffith; daughter, Dayna Seiber; grandchildren, Jake and Elizabeth McGuire, Scott and Melissa Mowery, Greg, Charlie and Mason Ivor Griffith, and Mia McGuire; and his brother, Larry (Georgia) McGuire. He was preceded in death by his parents and a son, Kevin McGuire.
