DeWITT, Iowa — Kathy Matthiesen, 68, of DeWitt, died Wednesday morning, May 17, 2017, at home. Kathryn Lorraine Hoffmann was born Dec. 17, 1948, in Davenport to Clarence and Beatrice (Smith) Hoffmann. She was a graduate of DeWitt High School and married Max Matthiesen. She worked in the deli at DeWitt Travel Mart until retirement.
She was a member of the United Methodist Church of DeWitt. Kathy loved her family dearly. Her happy go lucky attitude brought joy to many. Kathy never knew a stranger and cared about everyone. Her laugh was infectious and you always knew when she was around. Kathy will be dearly missed.
Surviving are children, Alexander (Anne Hurt) Matthiesen of Monticello and Tina (Joseph) Hardin of Wheatland; grandchildren, Ashley (Curtis) Jess, Braxton Matthiesen, Coleman Hardin, Mason Hardin and Alexandra Hardin; great-grandchildren, Alexis, Elijah, Ainsly, Wesley and Liliahna; siblings, Otto (Tootie) Olsen, LeEllen “Lonni” (Gene) Meyer, Janice Richardson and Carelyn “Charlie” Dann; nieces and nephews.
Preceding Kathy in death were her parents; sisters, Eleanore Olson and Delores “Lori” Swim and a brother-in-law, John Dann.
The family will receive relatives and friends at Schultz Funeral Home, DeWitt from 3-6 p.m. Sunday, May 21, 2017. A service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, May 22, 2017, at the funeral home with Pastor Tom Boomershine officiating. Burial will be at Elmwood Cemetery, DeWitt.
Pallbearers will be grandchildren, Ashley Jess, Braxton Matthiesen, Coleman Hardin, Mason Hardin, Alexandra Hardin as well as Shelby Prier.
