CORDOVA — Laura M. Calhoun, 92, formerly of Cordova and Port Byron, died Sunday, March 19, 2017, at Rosewood Care Center, Moline. A celebration of life will be 2-4 p.m. Sunday, March 26, at the Rapids City Civic Center. Gibson-Bode Funeral Home, Port Byron is in charge of arrangements.
Laura Mae Hahn was born Oct. 25, 1924, in Carbon Cliff, the daughter of David and Mildred Miller Hahn. She married James Calhoun in May 1943. He preceded her in death in 1972. She had been a cook at various restaurants in upper Rock Island County. Laura had also been a CNA for many years, working for the Visiting Nurses Association. She was a devoted Chicago Cub fan, enjoyed reading, doing word search puzzles and sewing
She is survived by daughters and sons-in-laws, Cynthia (Gary) Fornero, Cordova, Christine Sarazin, LeClaire, and Brenda (Dan) Cunningham, Davenport; a son, Michael Calhoun, Port Byron; 19 grandchildren; and several great and great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Carol Sweetman; a great-grandson, Trey Fornero-Green; three sisters; and one brother.
