ROCK ISLAND - Meredith E. "Jack" Teel, 86, of Rock Island, died Friday, March 19, 2010 at his home.

Services are 11 a.m. Wednesday at Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home, 201 E. 4th Ave., Milan, Ill. Burial, with military honors presented by American Legion Posts 569/200 and V.F.W. Post 1303, will be at Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery, Rock Island. Visitation will be 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to Well Springs of Freedom ministry.

Meredith was born June 23, 1923, in Bethel Township, McDonough County, Ill., a son of Samuel L. Teel and Edith S. (Coker) Teel. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. He married Zelma Darlene Stoneking on February 23, 1943, in Palmyra, Mo. She preceded him in death on September 25, 1995.

He worked for Servus Rubber Co., Rock Island for forty years, retiring as maintenance supervisor. In earlier years he farmed for a time.

Meredith attended Heritage Wesleyan Church, Rock Island. He accepted Christ as his Savior on January 12, 2010. He loved being with his family, especially his grandchildren. He will be fondly remembered as the family storyteller. He also enjoyed taking drives, especially in the fall, with longtime family friend, Elaine Taylor, whom followed him to heaven.

He was a member of the Milan American Legion Post 569. He enjoyed tending his yard, garden, and flowers, feeding the birds, hunting, fishing and making peanut brittle to share with family and friends.

Surviving are his daughter and son-in-law, Susan and Lloyd Albertson, Jr., Rock Island; grandchildren, Dawn Kimmel, Sara Teel Gutshall, Shane Albertson and Gregg (Gina) Albertson; great-grandchildren, Taylor, Tori, Max, Camric, Shelby and Shannen; sisters, Lola Copeland, Macomb, Luan (Bob) Kendrick, Table Grove, Ill.; brother, Jack (Lee) Teel, Industry, Ill.; sister-in-law, Betty Steele, Davenport; and numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives.

Meredith is preceded in death by his parents, son, Thomas Teel, siblings, Melvin, Lewis, Sammie, Francis, Donnabell, Jerry, Donnie, Larry and Scotty Teel, and his mother-in-law and father-in-law.
