SILVIS — Richard “Dick” D. Forney, 87, of Silvis, formerly of Port Byron, died Wednesday, Sept. 21, 2016, at Aspen Rehab and Health Care in Silvis. Services will be 10 a.m. Friday, Sept. 23, 2016, at Gibson-Bode Funeral Home, Port Byron. Visitation will be 4-7 p.m. today at the funeral home. Burial will be in Rock Island National Cemetery, Arsenal Island. Memorials may be made to Heartland Hospice.

Dick was born March 12, 1929, in Batavia, Iowa, the son of Carroll and Roberta (Porter) Forney. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War and was discharged in 1953. Dick married B. Marie Kelsey on June 13, 1950, in Iowa. He was a member of the Teamsters and drove a truck for various companies throughout his career. Dick was an early member of the Riverdale Booster Club. He enjoyed fishing, gardening and woodworking.

He is survived by his wife, B. Marie Forney; son, Richard Dean (Kay) Forney, Cary, Illinois; daughter, Cheryl (Steve) Reader, East Moline; four grandchildren, Shawn and Shannon Forney and Chad and Dawn Reader; and a brother, Jack (Helen) Forney. Dick was preceded in death by his parents and five siblings, Roberta Taylor, Betty Sanders, Margaret Gillen, Lorraine Forney and Robert Forney. Share a memory or condolence at www.gibsonbodefh.com.
