DeWITT, Iowa - Sally “Switchboard” Bialota, 77, of Dewitt, Iowa, departed this life on April 4, 2013, at Genesis Medical Center-East Rusholme Street, Davenport. A Celebration of Life Service will be 4-6 p.m. April 16 in the Fellows Room at Vickie Ann Palmer Hall, (former Iowa Masonic Temple), in Davenport. A special dedication is planned for 4:30 p.m. Following Sally’s wishes, her body has been cremated.
Sally was employed at Palmer College of Chiropractic for nearly 35 years as the switchboard operator. Her true impact at Palmer College however was in the role of loving friend, mom to all and champion for everyone around her. When you visited Sally’s office, it was more like you were in her home; a small space carved out where people could come for a little treat, a place to rest, watch a little TV and just be together. If you needed a hug or a smile, Sally was always ready to give whatever she had. There wasn’t a birthday for any employee at Palmer that went unnoticed by Sally. She made sure to send a card and small piece of candy so that you knew at least one person wanted you to feel important on your special day. The same held true for holidays, new births and other special occasions. She put everyone else before herself. Over the years she “adopted” many Palmer students that loved her like a mother and continued to call and visit her long after graduation day came and went. Sally made Palmer feel like home.
She is survived by her loving husband, Frank, and many cherished friends.
