DAVENPORT — Wayne B. Mallette Sr., 85, of Davenport, passed away peacefully Wednesday, May 17, 2017, at his home. Memorial graveside services will be 2:30 p.m. Tuesday, May 23, at Rock Island National Cemetery, Arsenal Island, where military honors will be presented by American Legion Post 26, Davenport. Those wishing to attend the services are asked to meet at Weerts Funeral Home, Kimberly at Jersey Ridge Road, Davenport, at 1:30 p.m. for procession onto the island. Pastor Donnie Plemmons will officiate. Memorials may be sent to his home or the VFW Post 828, 101 S. Linwood Ave., Davenport, Iowa, 52804.
Wayne was born in 1932 in Des Moines to Lorraine and Delcie Mallette. He married Shelia Faith Osterberg on July 28, 1953, in Bettendorf. She preceded him in death Aug. 25, 2013. During the Korean War, he served with the U.S. Navy on the USS Midway. Since 1955, he worked as an office machine repairman for Monroe Systems for Business. In addition to his career, he enjoyed camping and his time with his family. He was a member of the NRA, Davenport VFW Post 828 and American Legion Post 26.
Survivors include daughters, Faith (Greg) McElderry of Davenport and Margaret (Tim) Kress of Rock Island; sons, Wayne B. Mallette Jr. (Lisa) of Fort White, Fla., Richard A. Mallette of Pierce City, Mo., and David (Sherry) Mallette of Moline; 12 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; sister, Brenda (Paul) Jeys of Davenport; and brothers, Larry (Pam) Cheek of Davenport and Bruce (Sue) Cheek of Eldridge.
In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Bob Mallette; sister, Karen Garrow; granddaughter, Amy Lee Sims, and his grandparents, who raised him, Martha and Roy Frasure.
