DAVENPORT — Funeral services for Wilbur LaVerne Kearney, 77, of Davenport, will be 1 p.m. Friday at Cunnick-Collins Mortuary, Davenport. Burial will follow at Davenport Memorial Park, Davenport, where military rites will be conducted by the Vietnam Veterans of America Chapter 299. Family will greet friends on Thursday 4-7 p.m. at the mortuary.
Cunnick-Collins Mortuary and Cremation Service is assisting the family with arrangements.
Wilbur passed away Feb. 19, 2017, at Genesis Medical Center–West Central Park, Davenport.
Wilbur LaVerne Kearney was born Oct. 31, 1939, in DeSoto, Iowa, the son of Earl “Ross” and Faye (Hubbard) Kearney. He married Kathy Marie Conwell on Jan. 28, 1967, in Bettendorf. He worked as a machine tool operator for Red Jacket Pumps for 11 years, retiring in 1991. He served in the U.S. Army for 11 years. He served during the Vietnam era. He was trained as a U.S. Army Airborne Ranger and as a member of Seal Team 10.
He enjoyed reading the book of Revelations, playing cards, fishing, collecting coins and stamps and watching Star Trek and Star Wars.
Survivors include his wife, Kathy of Davenport; sons; Randy (Lisa) Kearney, Steve Kearney, Jerry (Tonya) Kearney, all of Davenport; mother, Faye Kearney of Branson, Missouri; four grandchildren, Bryan Kearney, Brennon Kearney, Nathan Kearney, Travis Kearney; brothers, James Ross (MaryRae) Kearney of Springfield, Ohio, Darwin Eugene Kearney of Frankston, Missouri, Gary Kearney of San Francisco, California; sisters, Faye Colleen Kearney of Florida, Rita Nuesca of Daytona, Florida, and Rebeca (Rand) Spragg of North Carolina.
He was preceded in death by his father and brother, Larry.
