DAVENPORT — Memorial services to celebrate the life of Bill Gillies, 62, of Davenport, will be 10 a.m. Wednesday, April 10, 2013, at Weerts Funeral Home, Kimberly at Jersey Ridge Road, Davenport. Visitation is 4-8 p.m. Tuesday. Private burial will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to a fund to be established in Bill’s name or to a charity of your choice.
Bill passed away on Friday April 5, 2013, at Genesis Medical Center, East Rusholme Street, Davenport. He was born in 1950 in Jersey City, N.J., to William George and Elisa Amalia Gillies. He was united in marriage to Eliza Lewis on Dec. 1, 1973, in St. Paul, Minn.
Bill practiced law since 1977. His education began at Macalester College in St. Paul, Minn. He obtained his law degree from the California Western School of Law, San Diego. Bill had practiced law in Rock Island since moving to the area in 1984.
Bill enjoyed spending time outdoors, watching classic movies and photography. His most cherished time was that spent with his family, most especially his daughters.
Bill had been active with his daughters in the YMCA Indian Princess Program and was a founding member of the Q-C Celtic Highland Games. Bill had also been a member of Scott County Pheasants Forever.
Survivors include his wife, Eliza; daughters, Meredith Jeanne Gillies (and Ki Seung Rhee) in Minnesota, and Caitlin Gillies in Colorado; sisters, Doreen (Leonard) Passmore in Virginia and Allison Gillies in East Dubuque, Ill.; brother, Paul Herbert in Chicago; and his sister-in-law Eda Herbert in Pennsylvania.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Jean Gillies; brother, Daniel Herbert, and nephew, Mark Schueller.
