DAVENPORT - William P. "Pat" McPherson, 58, a resident of Davenport, passed away on Friday, October 5, 2012, at his home after a brave battle with cancer.

A celebration of life service will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, October 10, 2012, at the McGinnis-Chambers Funeral Home, Bettendorf.

Family will greet friends from 9 a.m. until the time of service Wednesday.

In lieu of flowers, memorials in his name may be made to Vander Veer Park.

Pat was born on August 24, 1954, in Davenport, the son of William H. and Ann (Schmidt) McPherson. He married Marge Sersig on August 24, 1975. They later divorced in 1982. He remarried on July 20, 1985, in Davenport to Rena Pipes.

After Pat graduated from Davenport Central in 1972, he worked for Oscar Mayer in Davenport from September 1974 until December 1984. During this time, he became involved win the East Davenport Turners, a club in his old neighborhood. On January 5, 1981, with the help of family, friends and good members, Pat and his mom started running the daily operations at the Turner Hall. Over the next 20 years, they managed hundreds of community events along with the seven-day-a-week club functions.

Pat wished to thank all involved in making those 20 years a success. There were many lives touched, and he would not have traded that for anything.

After the club closed, Pat started his third career at HWH Corp. in Moscow, Iowa, where he worked from February of 1999 until his illness in 2012. Paul Hanson, owner of HWH, and his staff, along with hundreds of coworkers, made HWH an enjoyable place to work and punch in.

He had been lucky to have always worked, and work was a big part of his life.

Pat is survived by his father and stepmother, William H. and Jo Ann McPherson, Fort Pierce, Fla.; his wife and ex-wife; his brothers, Mike (Crystal) McPherson, Harold (Julie) McPherson and Bruce (Pat) McPherson; his sister, Sandra Sicari; his children, Trisha McPherson, New York, Jennifer (John) Lazenby, Davenport, Amanda McPherson, Davenport, William "Billy" McPherson, Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Elizabeth (Jim) Covey, Davenport, and Robert McPherson, Davenport; and 13 grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Ann.

Condolences may be sent to the family by visiting Pat's obituary at www.McGinnis-Chambers.com.

My deepest sympathy to the family for your loss of Pat. He really worked hard to make Turner's a success and it meant a lot to him and Grandma when the family pitched in to help at events. Much thanks to Jennifer and John for their hospitality over the years to provide a place for the family to still get together for the holidays after Grandma's passing.
Rest in peace, Pat and know that you will live on in memories. ~ Juli McPherson
