MUSCATINE, Iowa — Two people have been charged with third-degree burglary.
According to court documents, on Oct. 26, Starlin Vargas, 18, of Conesville, and Jorge Ortiz Jr., 18, of Columbus Junction, broke into a Conesville home and stole tools and electronics. Nobody was home at the time.
Vargas is also accused of breaking into the home on two earlier occasions, once on Oct. 23 and sometime between May 6 and 29. During those burglaries, Vargas allegedly stole stereo equipment, a laptop computer and money. The stereo equipment and laptop have since been recovered.
Third-degree burglary is a class D felony which carries a prison term of up to five years and a fine from $750-$7,500.
Both Vargas and Ortiz remain in the Muscatine County Jail, on $10,000 and $5,000 bonds, respectively. Preliminary hearings for both are scheduled for 9 a.m. Friday, Dec. 14.
