Two people are in critical condition in Iowa City as the Davenport Fire Department continues investigating the cause of a house fire Wednesday morning.
Davenport fire crews responded to a house fire at 2621 E. 50th St. shortly after 8:30 a.m. and extinguished a fire in an upstairs bedroom, Fire Marshal Mike Hayman said.
Firefighters responded to the home after multiple calls came in at 8:31 a.m. and rescued a man and a woman from the home, Hayman said.
“They both had serious burns,” Hayman said.
They were airlifted to University Hospitals, Iowa City, for treatment. They were still at the hospital Thursday morning, Hayman said.
No one else was in the home.
Firefighters had contained the fire to the upstairs bedroom, and as of Thursday morning, had not yet determined the cause, Hayman said.
