A Park View, Iowa, man has been identified as one of two people killed in a head-on collision Sunday afternoon in Minnesota.
Travis Bellin, 22, was a passenger in a 2005 Chevrolet Silverado that burst into flames after it collided with a 2005 Ford Super Duty pickup driven by Dorothy Hovland, 75, of Shakopee, Minn., according to a Minnesota Department of Public Safety crash report.
The driver of the Silverado, David Lundgren, 55, of Bloomington, Minn., also died, the report states.
The accident happened in on state Minnesota 7 in Prinsburg.
Hovland is in critical condition at a local hospital. Her passenger was treated for non-life-threatening injuries.
According to Bellin’s mother, Wendy Bellin, her son and Lundgren, his uncle, were traveling home from a fishing trip in South Dakota.
“He loved the outdoors,” she said. “He loved fishing, hunting and trapping.”
Bellin graduated from North Scott High School in 2007 and from Vermilion Community College in Ely, Minn., in 2009.
Wendy Bellin said he was set to graduate from the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point with a degree in wilderness management.
“He was just an incredible young man,” his mother said. “He had two jobs lined up for this summer.”
She said Lundgren was like a second father to her son and the two went on many fishing trips together.
“They hunted and fished and did everything together,” she said. “And they died together.”
A memorial service is
11 a.m. Friday at Mount Olivet Lutheran Church in Minneapolis.
