Rock Island Mayor Dennis Pauley said today the city saw a flurry of economic development activity in 2012 and is poised for more in 2013.

During his Condition of the City speech to a joint meeting of the Rock Island Kiwanis and Rotary clubs, Pauley touted developments in several major projects, such as the announcement of a $40 million expansion at Augustana College, Walmart’s announcement of plans to build a store on 11th Street that will bring 400 new jobs to the area, and the beginning of construction on a $26 million MetroLink office and maintenance facility.

Pauley said more than 20 new businesses opened in Rock Island in 2012.
