'To see it is really cool'

Laurie Mulholland usually sits out the Quad-City Times Bix 7.

She's not a runner, and she had never made her way to the sidelines to watch.

But this year, with her boyfriend running, the Clinton woman decided to get out and support him.

He noticed.

Part way up Brady Street hill, Tom Thiessen, who is also from Clinton, made a quick stop to say hello and tell Mulholland he expected to be back in about an hour and a half.

With a quick kiss, he was back on the race course.

Mulholland doesn't have a desire to run the race herself. Possibly, she'll walk next year. "No way running," she said.

Either way, she said it was worth it to get out on the course -- and not just to support her boyfriend.

"It's amazing," she said. "People always talk about it, but to see it is really cool."
