MAQUOKETA, Iowa — Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation agents are investigating a shooting Thursday night that injured a Maquoketa man.

DCI and law enforcement officials were still at the home of Gerald Edwards, 63, at 208 S. Niagara St. on Friday. Edwards is listed in stable condition at University Hospitals, Iowa City.

Assistant Police Chief Craig Jackson said Friday no further information was being released about the shooting.

Earlier, Maquoketa Police Chief Brad Koranda said Edwards was shot at 11:14 p.m. and taken to Jackson County Regional Health Center and then airlifted to Iowa City.

When officers arrived, Edwards told them there was an intruder in the house when he was shot but the intruder had left before officers arrived.

"There is no public safety concern at this time. The weapon used in the incident has been recovered," Koranda said.

Anyone who has information about the shooting is asked to call Maquoketa police at 563-652-2468.
