Police need information regarding racial slurs that were spray painted on two vehicles in the 2300 block of Jefferson Avenue, Davenport, over the weekend.

Anyone who has information on the person or people responsible for the crime is asked to call the Crime Stoppers of the Quad-Cities tip line at 309-762-9500. If the information leads to an arrest, the tipster could receive up to $1,000.

Callers to Crime Stoppers can remain anonymous.

Davenport Alderwoman Sheilia Burrage told the Quad-City Times on Monday that one of the slurs was spray painted on a car sitting in front of her house.

Graffiti is classified under criminal mischief, a serious misdemeanor. If it’s found that the suspects also committed a hate crime, the criminal mischief charge is enhanced to an aggravated misdemeanor.

At least 5 cars were vandalized and spray painted with offensive graffiti in my neighborhood. Cops did nothing. It happens to someone on the city council, it makes the news and rewards are issued. What a crock.

If this happened anywhere else in town it would get no news story and no reward. Since it was by an aldermans house it is now priority #1 for the police.
