Production resumed at Sivyer Steel at about 11 p.m. Wednesday, just a few hours after a fire forced the evacuation of the plant.

Firefighters were called to the plant at 225 33rd St. in Bettendorf at 7:28 p.m. Wednesday after a spark from a welder ignited some insulation materials in a building detached from the main plant, said company spokeswoman Eva Dondanville.

The employees working second shift at the plant were evacuated, but there were no injuries.

Firefighters from Bettendorf, Riverdale and the Rock Island Arsenal responded to the fire and had it extinguished just before 10 p.m. A damage estimate was not available.

Dondanville said the company was grateful for the quick response of the fire departments.
