Trip to see Chicago Zither Club: The German American Heritage Center will sponsor a trip to see the Chicago Zither Club’s final musical performance on April 28 at Donauschwaben Halle in Des Plaines, Ill. Members of the Davenport Zither Ensemble will perform as well. The bus will depart at 10:30 a.m., with the concert at 3 p.m. Tickets are $70 for members, $80 for nonmembers, including travel and concert tickets. RI County property equalization factor set: Rock Island County has been issued a final property assessment equalization factor of 1.0000, according to Brian Hamer, director of the Illinois Department of Revenue. The property assessment equalization factor, often called the “multiplier,” is the method used to achieve uniform property assessments among counties, as required by law. Assessments in Rock Island County are at 33.42 percent of market value, based on sales of properties in 2009, 2010 and 2011. The equalization factor currently being assigned is for 2012 taxes, payable in 2013. Last year’s equalization factor for the county was 1.0000.
Grassley to hold town meetings: Sen. Chuck Grassley, R-Iowa, will attend town meetings in the area during the scheduled Senate Easter break. The senator will be in Tipton from 8:45-9:45 a.m. March 28 at the Cedar County Courthouse, 400 Cedar St. He will visit Wapello from 7:45-8:45 a.m. April 4 at the Wapello Ambulance Building, 400 U.S. 61 South.
Business Day at Augustana: Augustana College will host its annual Business Day on April 19 for businesses to connect with area college students. Keynote speaker is Michael Passananti, an Augustana graduate and lawyer with Duggan Bertsch, LLC, in Chicago. After Passananti’s remarks and a catered breakfast, business representatives and students will participate in job shadowing and information gathering from company offices. Read Local with author Katie Ganshert: The Read Local program at the Bettendorf Public Library will feature nationally reviewed author Katie Ganshert at 7 p.m. April 3 at the library. Ganshert, a Bettendorf native and graduate of the University of Wisconsin-Madison with a degree in education, is the author of “Wildflowers from Winter” and “Wishing on Willows.” She will discuss her experiences of being an author, with a focus on working in the publishing industry. Books will be available for sale, with a signing and Q&A.
