Benefit for local cancer patient scheduled: Mulligan’s Valley Pub will host a benefit for Dan Duyvejonck from 5-8 p.m. March 26 at 310 W. 1st Ave., Coal Valley. A graduate of Alleman High School in Rock Island, Duyvejonck was diagnosed with Stage 4 esophageal cancer last year. The benefit is to raise funds to defray medical costs and living expenses. There will be a basket raffle, 50/50 drawing and tacos, for which donations will be accepted. Must be 21 or older. Bottled water and soft drinks will be available to purchase.

Cycling group to hold annual race: The Quad-City Friends of Off Road Cycling will hold its ninth annual Sylvan Island Stampede from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. April 14 at Sylvan Island Park, Moline. All ages are welcome to participate. The novice race will start at 9 a.m. with other races to follow. Cost is $25 to register early, $30 on the day. Math and science scholarships available: The CVM-Illinois Math & Science Initiative will accept applications for the CVM-Illinois Youth Mentoring Health Scholarship for high school seniors and undergraduate students to study math, science or medical sciences.

Applicants must be 25 years or younger and have a cumulative GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale and may not be the child of a practicing medical doctor. Up to five scholarships of $2,000-$5,000 will be awarded.
