A Quad-City memorial service for the victims of the school shooting in Connecticut will be held at 9:30 a.m. Friday at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church, 417 N. Main St., Davenport.

Participants are asked to wear a blue ribbon. A moment of silence will be observed, and a bell will ring 26 times for the 20 children and six adults who were killed Dec. 14 in Newtown, Conn.

Also Friday, Iowa Gov. Terry Branstad asked residents to observe a moment of silence at 9:30 a.m. to honor those killed at Sandy Hook Elementary School. The moment of silence comes at the request of Connecticut Gov. Dannel Malloy, who issued a proclamation calling on residents of Connecticut to observe Friday as a day of mourning and asked governors of other states to ask for a moment of silence.
