A 40-year-old Muscatine man attempted to entice a 15-year-old girl, including sending her what amounted to about 146 text messages a day over several months, court records unsealed this week state.
Mark A. Sievert is charged in U.S. District Court, Davenport, with four counts of attempted enticement of a minor, seven counts of attempted production of child pornography, one count of possession of child pornography and one count of receipt of child pornography.
The 13-count indictment was filed Tuesday. Sievert, who is in federal custody, is scheduled to be arraigned at 9 a.m. Wednesday.
The victim’s mother discovered the text messages on
Sept. 14 and confronted Sievert, who denied having any sexual encounter with her daughter, records state.
The mother then discovered a pornographic video and photos of the victim after accessing the SIM card from the victim’s cellphone, records state.
Police interviewed the victim, who said that after meeting Sievert in person, the two used Facebook to continue communicating, records state. She also said he gave her a cellphone so that he could text her, and he told her to keep the cellphone a secret from her parents, records state.
Between July 2 and Sept. 14, Sievert sent the victim more than 11,000 text messages, and he received more than 9,000 text messages from the victim, records state.
Police investigated the text messages and found that many were sexually explicit, some anticipated sexual activity, and some were sent after alleged sexual activity between the two, records state.
The victim told police she and Sievert had sexual relations multiple times, records state.
At Sievert’s request, the victim used her cellphone camera to take nude pictures of herself and send them to Sievert, records state. She also made an explicit video of herself, and when the video was too large to send, she gave her phone to Sievert so he could produce a pornographic video, records state.
Police searched cellphones and found the text messages, pictures and video, records state.
