A volunteer from the Red Cross of the Quad-Cities Area left Friday to help with disaster relief in Mississippi. Cyndie Waters of Morrison, Ill., is heading to Hattiesburg, Miss., which was struck by a tornado Sunday. President Barack Obama declared a federal disaster in Mississippi Wednesday following the storm that tore through a college campus and destroyed or damaged more than 800 homes in the southern part of the state. The National Weather Service says the tornado had maximum winds of 170 mph and forged a path three-quarters of a mile wide.
