A Rock Island family is living with relatives after a cooking fire caused about $30,000 in damage to an apartment Saturday night.

Fire crews were called to 1103 25th St., Apt. D-4, at 5:54 p.m. Saturday and were able to quickly put out the fire with an extinguisher and then a fire hose. Smoke had filled the main hallway of the three-story building, but none was visible from the outside.

Fire officials estimate about $20,000 in damage to kitchen cabinets, walls and ceiling and about $10,000 in damage to contents. The renters were home when the fire started, but no one was injured.

The cause of the fire is under investigation by the Rock Island Fire Marshals Office. The Rock Island Arsenal Fire Department assisted at the scene.
