A main sewer line that broke in the Clinton County town of Calamus resulted in sewage flowing Saturday into a road ditch that flows to Calamus Creek.

The broken line was discovered and reported shortly before noon Saturday, the Iowa Department of Natural Resources said in a news release. The main serves less than half the city and arrangements were being made to have repairs completed as soon as possible.

It was unknown Saturday afternoon how much volume is being bypassed the sewage treatment plant, but there is a high mixture of stormwater because of recent rainfall.
