A ceremony is planned for 6:30 p.m. Wednesday at St. Ambrose University to mark World Diabetes Day.
Teaching and Promoting All Disability Awareness, or ADAPT, will light the St. Ambrose statue in blue during a ceremony in front of Ambrose Hall on the Davenport campus to promote awareness of the disease. Participants are invited to wear blue to support the event.
Diabetes is a leading cause of blindness, kidney failure, heart attack, stroke and amputation in the world. The number of people living with diabetes has increased greatly in the past 30 years — from 30 million worldwide in 1985 to a projected 440 million by 2030.
