The Student Hunger Drive by area high school students to collect and donate food to the River Bend Foodbank will begin Monday.

Students from 18 area high schools plan events to promote the drive, organize food collections, package and deliver the collected food. Students are recognized for their efforts at an awards party on the last day of the drive.

The Student Hunger Drive will celebrate 27 years of helping in 2012 after its founding in 1986 by Pete Pohlmann, then president of Lujack’s NorthPark Auto Plaza.

The kickoff party will be 6 p.m. Monday at River Bend Foodbank, Moline. Collected food will be loaded at the foodbank Nov. 7 and 8, with the final rally 6-8 p.m. Nov. 8 at the foodbank.
