The Bettendorf Public Library will begin conducting surveys next week to determine why local residents use, or don’t use, the library.
The surveys will be used to help the library staff develop a new five-year strategic plan, director Elisa Topper said.
“As we develop the plan, we need to know what makes people want to go in (the library), what people want from us,” Topper said.
The survey asks questions about how often the participant visits the library, what the library does well and what the library could do better.
“Mainly, we just want to find out if we are providing the types of services the people of Bettendorf want us to provide in this day and age,” library board president Kathy Brandtner said.
The survey is available online. Topper said the library also will set up tables in the library lobby for patrons to complete the survey, will distribute surveys to people using the library’s meeting rooms, and will go to public places outside the library and outside Bettendorf to get a broader perspective about what the library has to offer.
Those who participate in the survey will be entered in a drawing to win a $25 Amazon gift card.
Topper said library staff also will seek volunteers to participate in focus groups about the library and its services.
Topper said the library staff will work on the strategic plan in May and June.
